Production Report 05-08-10

Activity: Production Meeting at Subway!
Date: 05/08
Start Time: 1.30pm
End Time: 3.30pm
Members in attendance: Dani, Rhett, Adam.
Facilitator: Daniella
Minutes:
Had a big Meeting to discuss the problems that we encountered during the week.
The problems revolved around the man we had cast as the father Jeremy K.
Other problems included the camera scheduling.
We fixed these problems by talking with the MRC during the week.
By trying to work around Jeremy we lost our Mother and would have only had Jeremy for 2 hours.
We decided that it would work better for all involved if we recast the father.
Daniella contacted Michael C. agent and are awaiting his reply.

We also discussed the changes that needed to be made to the call sheets. We changed the friday and tuesday calls to better suit the schedule as well as the actors.
We discussed having to book a hotel for Hunter as well as catering.
We have decided to contact someone in regards to 3 days of full catering.

We also discussed the budget that was created, no changes needed to be made.

We also looked at nursing homes and retirement villages around the filming area and will call and see if we can shoot a 5 second scene at the location.

We discussed that many of the things we need to confirm with the group the following day and make sure that areas like props and audio were fully covered.

Adam, Olex and I went to Box Hill (and got lost!) and pitched the script to the group there.
We found some very positive people that we feel will work well with our group.
Meanwhile, Rhett stayed at Uni and set up the room for the auditions.
Phoebe went home.
Juntra went home to work on the script breakdown.
Adam, Olex and I rushed back and got through 3 auditions before there was a booking mix up and we were forced to move to an alternate location.
At around 5.30 auditions were over.
Rhett, Adam and I discussed who thought would best suit each individual role.

Film Stock Pricing

The proper pricing for the film stock has come in, it is an additional $40 per role then what we estimated.

I called the Kodak office in Australia and the full price for the Kodak vision 200T film is $237AUD with a 40% discount it is $142.20 AUD per roll
so the final cost will be $568.80 fro 4 rolls of film.

$164 More than we thought it would cost.

-Juntra

This seems reasonable to me.

Fundraising

Rhett has done some fantastic research and provided a multitude of ideas that we need to decide upon as soon as possible in order to begin fundraising.

Two Hundred and Two Fundraising Opportunities

There are a few options for fundraising. All have their pros and cons. As a team we must decide on what ideas are feasible and can be completed in a 12-15 week timeframe.

Chocolate Drive.
Chocolate drives can be organised through Cadbury. There is a minimum purchase of 15 boxes of chocolates. Each box contains 48 chocolates that are sold at $1.20each.

Pros
Boxes can be given to family and friends to take to work and leave in staff rooms etc.
50% profit margin if we sell all 15 boxes.

Cons
Possibility of wastage (melted chocolates)
Possibility of theft if boxes are left unattended in staff rooms.
Could take entire trimester to sell all of the chocolate

Sausage Sizzle
The sausage sizzle can be organised at uni. DUSA has a BBQ that hopefully we can commandeer and use. *The above figures are based on the price of the cheapest sausages we can get through Coles. If decide to host a sausage sizzle we may be able to ask Coles to donate the sausages and we can recognise them in our special thanks in the end credits, this would allow us to have a 100% Profit margin. The return and profit is based on 220 sausages (10x 22pack of Coles Sausages) sold at $1.50 each.

Pros
Quick Fundraiser to complete.
Around 50% profit margin with a possibility of a 100% profit

Cons
Possibility of not selling all the 220 sausages

Garage Sale
A garage sale has the opportunity to create some good cash flow if we have any unwanted items.

Pros
Quick Fundraiser to complete.
100% profit margin

Cons
Could not work out
Could only return a small amount of cash.

Movie Ticket Drive
We can print of order forms for free of FunRaiser.com, we then sell ticket packs to family and friends. They receive packs of tickets at a cheap price for use at Village cinemas.

Pros
No risk of lost money as there are no upfront costs
Great return
Should be popular

Cons

Film Stock

Juntra has done some fantastic research and come up with rough estimates of pricing of the film stock based on an American kodak site so this may change. Estimates show that we will require 4 roles of film in accordance with the 4:1 ratio suggested. Each role will cost an estimated $101.00 which includes the 40% student discount.
If these figures prove to be accurate we should be able to purchase the stock relatively soon and keep it aside.

400 ft roll of film @ 25 fps = 10 mins 40sec
8 min of screen footage = 300 ft of film
at a 4:1 ratio we need a minimum of  1200 ft (3 rolls)
To be safe maybe 4 rolls

The film stock i am interested in is KODAK vision3 200T code(7213)
I looked on the site it says it cost $146.18  per roll I assume its in USD
so 168.29 AUD each x 4 = $673.16
If we order with a stock purchasing letter signed by simon we get 40% off
so the final cost will be $403.98 AUD for 4 rolls of film.

I will call the AUS kodak office tomorrow to confirm the price and ask if we can maybe get some free samples to test the film stock with.
I have 200ft (5mins) left of 16mm Kodak vision 500T film that we can also use for the test shoot.

What we discussed:

Storyboard: This will be handled by Adam and Juntra. We will need to start this as soon as a location has been confirmed. A copy will need to be given to Olex in order for him to do the lighting plan based on the storyboard.

Directors Report: Adam if you need any insight about the process of coming up with the story please let me know. This needs to be completed by the following class on Friday.

Casting Call: Phoebe you will need to post a casting call on Star Now or other casting websites. (If you do want to get those American actors I like I really won't object, honest!)

Audio: Olex can you begin working on this while Rhett is working on his tasks. Maybe go through the script and look through what sounds will be required.

Fundraising: Rhett will be heading up the majority of the fundraising tasks in terms of organization it is expected that everyone will contribute in helping with all the projects.

Synopsis: Written and posted, does everyone think this has been covered properly.

Summary

Two Hundred and Two is a short film being created at Deakin University.

Two Hundred and Two follows Hunter, a post high-school teenager striving to make a decision about his potentially arduous future. Faced with pressure by both his parents and best friend, Hunter turns to the one member of his family that has always supported him; his grandfather.

When the horror of the Bali Bombings occurs Hunter feels the need to make a decision about what path to follow. Those of his lawyer father or veteran grandfather.
